Maybe you could still find one of those?Īnyway, my $14 clamp on FAL style handle with irin sights only (got an A2 stylish rear sight that doesn't have the A2 style handle just the sight part only mounted to the rear of the rail right above the charging handle) works perfect and is much preferred compared to the clamp on A2 style carry handle I tried first. They were about as short and stubby as most red dots. Maybe one of those short squatty fat fixed power scopes they used to sell for mounting on the rear dust cover of SKS rifles that were short enough to get behind comfortably but still allow loading the SKS via stripper clip in front of the scope front lense. Most red dots would be short enough but most magnified optics would not be. Or maybe with like a 22+" length heavy bull barrel and a short compact in length scope you could have the weight balance far enough forward where you clamp on the FAL style carry handle to just be far enough forward of a short length optic mounted far back on the rail.

But then the rings would take all the carrying load so they would have to be some heavy duty rings.

If you found a really heavy duty set of scope rings that had a stacking rail on the top of the rings (like some guys use to mount a mini-red-dot above a high magnification scope, stacked optics yuck, but to each their own). If you want a carry handle to put on top of a flattop A4 type receiver and it's the carry handle you want not the A2 (or A1) look that you are looking for then I personally found this FAL style clamp on carry handle combined with Iron sights that are just sights much more to my liking then the A2 style clamp on thing I tried but once (I have big hands, no fit in clamp on A2 style except just up to the first finger joint only).ĭoesn't work with optics though unless you have a quick release that actually holds zero because on a normal AR it clamps on at the same area you usually mount optics.
